Kristen Wildeman – Fitness Specialist & Instructor

ISSA-CPT, American Red Cross First Aid/AED

“The body achieves what the mind believes.”

I first found that I enjoyed fitness in my 7th-grade weightlifting class.  I very much enjoyed challenging myself physically in that class every-day.  I was always active, but it was more geared towards dancing and cheerleading.  I also ran cross country in high school for a year.  I became pregnant in high school at the age of 16.  That changed the projection of my high school fitness career.  I acquired my CNA license through a program in high school and immediately went to work after graduation.  Fast forward a few years and here I am.  When I finally got back into fitness I was sure it was what I wanted to do for the rest of my life.  I obtained my CPT and staring teaching a HIIT class for the Hays Rec June 2010.  From there I became a part-time employee and our NEW fitness center that opened in 2011.  In August of 2011, I was blessed to become a full-time employee and HRC’s newest Fitness Specialist.  I oversee all group classes and help manage the fitness facility.  Helping people has always been my passion and I am right where I want to be!

"Live for today, for you never know what tomorrow will bring"

Hello all!  My love for fitness started as a young girl who always wanted to dance.  Being a farm girl, the only way for me do do that was to make up routines in my parents' basement.  This grew into following the old Jane Fonda and any other aerobic records that were out on the market.  Now, I have been teaching fitness since 1986.  I started teaching fitness classes at my place of work after hours which then grew into teaching for the recreation center in Victoria.  I then moved on to Ultimate Fitness for women, which took me to the school district, and finally brought me to where I reside currently, Hays Recreation Center.  I have been here since 2000.  As you can see, active is a way of life for me, and my passion is working with individuals to also be active and enjoy it.

I have been married for 32 years and have two wonderful boys, both grown. Between the two boys I have 3 beautiful granddaughters, a doggy (Scruffy), and 3 cats.  I love nature and being outside.  I also have a passion for running.  I prefer to be at home spending time with my loved ones.

“There are no shortcuts.  It takes time to build a better, stronger version of yourself.”

Growing up I was always active with sports, gymnastics, dance, softball, volleyball, etc. But my passion for fitness grew when I was in high school with distance running.  I have completed multiple half marathons and various other races.  I love being active any way I can, from weightlifting, spinning, HIIT, or even just talking a stroll with the family.  I have a Bachelor’s Degree in Health Promotion and Wellness from FHSU.  I have been instructing classes for HRC since 2012. I teach all over the place, anything from low intensity all the way to your higher intensity classes.  I also sub a variety of classes including Yoga.  I believe that fitness is for everyone, it can fit all levels of individuals.  Find an activity that you truly enjoy and staying active will be so much easier and way more fun.

ACE-CPT, ACE-GFI, American Red Cross First Aid/AED

“If it doesn’t challenge you, it doesn’t change you.”

I was born and raised in Honolulu, HI. and spent a majority of my time playing soccer.  I started playing soccer at the age of 4, and continued playing until I graduated college.  In high school, I played varsity soccer and softball, along with club soccer on the side.  I was then recruited off the island to Colorado to continue my soccer career.  I appeared in 2 championship games.  It was in Colorado that I graduated with my A.S.  I was then scouted and recruited to FHSU to finish my schooling and soccer career.  I interned with HRC in 2014, and then went on to become an instructor and part-time employee in 2015.  I love every second of it too.

Sabrina Hallahan - Instructor

ACSM-CPT, CPR/First Aid, Masters of Health and Human Performance FHSU

“Ability is what your capable of doing.  Motivation determines what you do. Attitude determines how well you do it.”

Growing up I was always involved in sports, which influenced my passion for fitness.  I always knew I wanted to keep fitness as a part of my lifestyle.  After I received my Masters, I wanted to share my passion with others.  I coached a local high-school volleyball team, and became a part-time employee at HRC Fitness. After volleyball season was over I began instructing group classes for HRC.  I truly enjoy passing my knowledge of fitness to others, so they might become better versions of themselves.  I believe that finding time for yourself and your health is mandatory. I think fitness is the gateway to a happy life.

Jennifer Jury - Instructor

“Winners never quit, and quitters never win.”

I cannot remember a time in my life where I was not active.  I played sports in junior high and high school.  At K-State, I spent many hours working out at the Chester E. Peters Recreation Complex.  I have even ran a marathon.  I love to work-out and enjoy the concept of a group class.  Anything from aerobics, Pilates, HIIT, spinning, strength training and yoga.  On weekends, or nicer days you can find me riding my bike all over town.  Just move, and keep moving my friends.

Karla Lacy - Instructor

“The greatest wealth is health.”

I started attending Hays Rec group classes well over 10 years ago.  I became an instructor in 2013.  What started out as covering a class here and there, turned into getting classes of my own.  My first class was a Core class, which I still teach.  I have taught and covered Spin, HIIT, and TRX classes.  I have always loved the social and accountability aspect of group classes.  I believe that group classes are a great way to stay motivated and challenged.  My passion is pushing class attendees to reach their personal fitness goals.  When I am not at the gym or teaching classes, I enjoy spending time with my hubby and our 2 schnauzer doggies, Leroy and Sully.

Laurie Kennedy - Instructor
