BEGINNING BEEKEEPING: MANKIND’S MOST BENEFICIAL INSECT  NEW
This course is designed to help offer participants a few of the basics of managing bee hives as a hobby.  Subjects discussed will include: choosing good locations for hives; equipment needed; what do bees need?; where to get your bees?, etc.   Beekeeping is a combination of an art and science.  Literally hundreds of books have been written on the subject.  While basic bee keeping is not necessarily complicated, the insect and its relationship with mankind can be complicated.  We will first discuss our topic in a classroom setting and later on venture out into the field to see actual hives at work.
Note: One really needs to have planned for bees during fall and winter.  By late winter, package bees and nucleus hives bees are sold out making it very difficult to begin.   But, if you have a hive or two and are not really sure what is happening inside them, with them or to them, this may be a good set of sessions for you.   Or if you are considering the hobby, this course would be a good primer for what to expect and how to get started the following year.
